2012 October 27: Transmission bearing removal (0.50 hours ) Updated: 2012 October 27

I organized and boxed up the rear drive parts I had cleaned the day before yesterday.
Knowing I would replace all of the ball bearings in the transmission, I had previously removed them from the case and cover using a blind-hold bearing puller. The one roller bearing, however, is of excellent quality and typically does not need to be replaced unless it shows significant signs of damage. The roller bearing is difficult to remove without damage using a blind hole bearing puller. To preserve the bearing (and have the transmission case completely empty in preparation for cleaning in oxalic acid), I heated the case using my Betty Crocker Roaster Oven. After the aluminum case had expanded sufficiently, the bearing simply dropped out with zero damage.
