Time to install the seal for the rear main bearing. Unfortunately, someone damaged the sealing surface when they removed the seal (likely a gouge from a seal puller). When I removed the seal during disassembly, I noted that someone had glued it in place. I did not realize why this had been done until after I had cleaned off all of the glue and found the damaged surface. So, I applied Permatex Super 300 to the seal and drove it in place. I was very careful not to let any be exposed under the seal. Just to be clear, use of sealing compounds is never recommended in this location. I only did so to take care of the damaged sealing surface on the main bearing.
