Thanks to Jim Carey for sending me photos of the wiring on his 1000 S (Series 2).

Hansjörg Reeg emailed me to confirm that the series 1 machines were equipped with a Saprisa altnerator and points ignition. Series 2 machines were equipped with a Ducati alternator and Digiplex ignition.
