Installing the center stand return spring or side stand return spring can be quite a challenge. I've used a couple of methods with good success:

Patrick Hayes alternative method

I extracted this information from Patrick Hayes off of the old Yahoo! Loopframe_Guzzi news group (which has now moved to Groups.io). In Patrick's own words:

Old fashioned trick method. Take the new spring and bend it substantially. The coils will spread apart. Pick one opening and jam a penny into the opening. Bend the spring in the opposite direction and insert another penny. After several sessions you will have extended the length of the spring. It pops right into position. Use some stout pliers to yank out the pennies.

Vince Tuttobene alternative method

I extracted this information from Vince Tuttobene off of the old Yahoo! Loopframe_Guzzi news group (which has now moved to Groups.io). In Vince's own words:

I just use strong twine or thin rope knotted into a loop and put one end on the hook of the spring and the other on the curve of the stand. Then insert an Allen key or similar to twist it Spanish windlass style. Push the spring down to the lug on the stand and unwind, cut the line.
