I wanted to test a rear drive for leaks, but didn't have the purpose-built special tool that Moto Guzzi made. Instead, I purchased a piece of 5⁄8 inch thick aluminum and drilled 5 holes into it: four for each of the studs and one for the central air chuck connection. The template below will help guide you in drilling the necessary holes. To use, the rear drive must be removed from the motorcycle and the pinion assembled withdrawn. Bolt the plate in place of the pinion carrier (with a gasket). Then used compressed air to inspect for any leaks. Soapy water is helpful. You may even need to submerge in a bucket of water.
