After restoring several vintage motorcycles it's always an anxious time placing the untested engine into a fresh frame since things don't always go as planned. The 1972 Eldorado police project was going to be different. The engine would be tested in a stand before installing into the powder coated frame with no body parts to get in the way or get damaged.
I planned to make a stand from scratch but happened to run across an altered loop frame on Craigslist. It was free; all I had to do was drive to Oklahoma City to get it. I think Italian goddess Futuna figured I could use her help.
Lowes: 1 inch square tube, perforated tube stock and casters
Junk box: Oil pressure light and diamond plate

The frame was very good shape except for the cut off back loop. That didn't matter.

Welded 4 legs and 2 parallel rails with a cross brace to the frame and added locking casters to move the loaded stand easily around the shop.

On top, the control panel has a rocker ignition switch, oil pressure light, push-button starter switch and handle bar for the throttle. The relay for the starter solenoid is underneath. The panel is held in place with a long bolt through the steering head and some large washers to keep it centered.

The battery shelf is outside the frame to make transmission and engine removal easy.

Wiring is simple needing only the bare essentials.
