Bench top buffer hood from plastic tub
The big wire wheel / buffer does a good job on big metal pieces but sometimes it's too big for small pieces and is limited to large coarse wire wheels and buffing wheels.
Small 4 inchNyalox brush wheels clean off light corrosion and dullness leaving a more polished finish than a small wire wheel. They last a long time, come in variety of shapes, sizes and coarseness.
The good news is they are attached to a 1⁄4 inch shaft that fits into an electric 3⁄8 inch drill which is clamped into a bench vice. I've been using this setup for quite a few years with very good results except for one thing. While the big buffer can be moved into the open so the swarf stays outside the bench setup is not moveable and its swarf winds up on the wall. I have been cleaning and repainting that area for too long.
Starting a new project I wanted to clean up the process. People smarter than me have used an ingenious DIY bench top buffer hood made from a plastic storage tub intended as a small jewelry buffing station. I adapted the idea using a 90 quart tub and the results follow.
